Indonesia is a well known destination for digital nomads, content creators and tourists, specially Bali is a top destination for tourists which attracts millions tourists each year.

Currently, tens of countries worldwide offer digital nomad visas for remote workers, but Indonesia is more successful in attracting digital nomads as the country now directly issues digital nomad visas to remote workers.

Unfortunately Indonesia digital nomad visa is not available for all nationalities, even if some nationalities meet all rest of the requirements they can’t apply for Indonesia digital nomad visa as the country don’t allow citizens of certain countries to apply for this visa.

Who can’t apply for Indonesia digital nomad visa?

Afghan nationals can not apply for Indonesia digital nomad visa, even if they meet all other requirements they can not apply for this visa as the country is not in the eligible countries list.

Nigerian passport holders also can not apply for Indonesia digital nomad visa, even if they meet all other requirements just because they are Nigerians they can not apply for Indonesia digital nomad visa.

If you are citizen of Israel, Kosovo, Liberia, North Korea, Cameroon, Somalia you can not apply for this visa. These nationalities are prohibited from applying for Indonesia digital nomad visa.

Income requirement

Unfortunately Indonesia digital nomad visa has the highest income among digital nomad visas, the minimum income per year is $60.000 which is $5.000 per month.

The average remote worker or digital nomad can’t meet this high requirement, on average a digital nomad make 1.000 to 1.500 USD per month.

To prove that you have monthly 5.000 USD you will need to present your Bank statement Bank records and payslips.

Additionally with bank statement and monthly income requirement the Indonesian digital nomad visa has another financial requirement:

Bank balance: to apply for Indonesia digital nomad visa you need to have 2.000 USD per month for 3 months at Bank balance, note it for each month 2.000 USD for 3 months 6.000 USD is a must.

Remote Job letter

During submission of visa application you will need to submit your Job letter which should include these details: your monthly salary, your position in company, your contact date.

If you are working for a company located outside of Indonesia and have at least 5.000 USD salary than you can apply for Indonesia digital nomad visa.

Freelancers can not apply for this visa. If you have your own work which you run remotely again you can not apply for this visa. This visa is only for those people who work for a company not Thier own work.

Proof of accomodation

During apply one of the requirements is proof of accomodation a place where you will stay in Indonesia. This should be arranged by you or someone behalf of you.

Proof of accomodation can be a simple hotel reservation or a strong Proof can be a rental agreement for an apartment or house. If you rent an apartment it will look like you are financially at good status and you are serious about your application.

Unfortunately as you see the conditions and requirements are very strict and it don’t look like that most of digital nomads will be able to apply for this visa.

Passport

You need a passport of eligible country to apply for Indonesia digital nomad visa, your passport should be valid at least 18 months .

This is not usual, most countries need 6 months valid passport but for Indonesia things change, you need a 18 months valid passport.

It was planned that Indonesia will launch a 5 year digital nomad visa, different from all other visas, but when the official announcement came it was just 1 year valid visa.

Indonesia digital nomad visa is valid for 1 year, if a digital nomad want stay more it’s possible to apply for visa extension, this visa can be renewed for 1 additional year, in total Indonesia digital nomad visa will grant 2 years stay in the country.

The visa holder ( who get Indonesia digital nomad visa) will enter to Indonesia with a short visa and when he/she arrived than he/she should submit application for residence permit.

The immigration authorities will issue to the visa holder a residence permit card which will be valid for 1 year, with this card you will be able to enter and exit to Indonesia any time you want without visa for 1 year.

When you applied for this visa and luckily your visa was granted you will need to enter to Indonesia within 3 months, the first short entry visa have 3 months validity to be use otherwise it will be expired.

Can I apply for Indonesia digital nomad visa within Indonesia?

No, you can not apply for Indonesia digital nomad visa when you are already at Indonesia, you need to exit from Indonesia and than apply for this visa.

Some people who are at Indonesia as a tourist they wish that they were able to apply for Indonesia digital nomad visa from inside the country but unfortunately the law don’t allow it.

Any one who want to apply for Indonesia should be outside of Indonesia and also she or he should work for a company located outside the Indonesia, these are basic rules of digital nomad visa.

There is tow fees in Indonesia digital nomad visa process, one is visa fee which is around $150, and second is residence permit fee which is $165.

The visa fee will be paid when you submit your visa application and the residence permit fee should be paid when you arrived at Indonesia and applied for residence permit card.
